Gateway Director Of Events Marty Cook And Alum Nick, Share Their Thoughts On Life After Recovery

How Gateway Helped Marty Cook and Nick Overcome Addiction and Find Purpose in Life

Gateway Foundation is a leading provider of addiction treatment and recovery services in Australia. Gateway offers a range of programs and therapies to help people overcome substance abuse and mental health issues, and achieve lasting recovery.

In this article, we will hear from two inspiring individuals who have benefited from Gateway's services: Marty Cook, the Director of Events at Gateway, and Nick, an alum of Gateway's residential program. They will share their thoughts on life after recovery, and how Gateway helped them find meaning and direction in their lives.

Marty Cook: From Addict to Advocate

Marty Cook knows firsthand the devastating effects of addiction. He started using drugs and alcohol at a young age, and soon became dependent on them. He dropped out of school, lost his job, and alienated his family and friends. He was homeless, hopeless, and suicidal.

"I was living in a car park, injecting heroin every day. I had no purpose, no future, no hope. I wanted to die," he recalls.

One day, he decided to seek help. He called Gateway Foundation and enrolled in their residential program. There, he received the medical care, counselling, and support he needed to detox from drugs and alcohol, and address the underlying issues that led him to addiction.

"Gateway saved my life. They gave me a safe place to heal, and taught me how to cope with my emotions and triggers. They showed me that I was not alone, and that recovery was possible," he says.

After completing the program, Marty stayed connected with Gateway through their aftercare services and alumni network. He also discovered his passion for helping others who struggle with addiction. He volunteered at Gateway events, shared his story at schools and community groups, and became an advocate for recovery.

"Gateway gave me a new purpose in life: to spread the message of hope and recovery. I wanted to give back to the place that gave me so much," he says.

Today, Marty is the Director of Events at Gateway Foundation. He organizes and oversees various events that raise awareness and funds for Gateway's programs and services. He also mentors new staff and clients, and provides peer support to fellow alumni.

"I love my job. I get to work with amazing people who share the same vision and mission as I do. I get to see the impact that Gateway has on people's lives every day," he says.

Nick: From Lost to Found

Nick was a successful businessman who had everything he wanted: a loving family, a lucrative career, a luxurious lifestyle. But he also had a secret: he was addicted to cocaine.

"I started using cocaine as a way to cope with stress and pressure at work. It made me feel confident, powerful, invincible. But it also took over my life. I became obsessed with getting more and more of it. I neglected my family, my health, my responsibilities. I lied, cheated, stole. I lost everything," he says.

Nick's addiction cost him his marriage, his job, his reputation, his savings. He hit rock bottom when he was arrested for drug possession and faced jail time.

"I realized that I had a problem. I knew I needed help. But I didn't know where to go or who to trust," he says.

He heard about Gateway Foundation from a friend who had gone through their program. He decided to give it a try. He enrolled in their residential program, where he received individualized treatment that addressed his physical, psychological, social, and spiritual needs.

"Gateway helped me understand why I became addicted to cocaine, and how to overcome it. They helped me heal from the trauma and pain that I had been suppressing for years. They helped me reconnect with myself, my family, my faith," he says.

Nick graduated from the program with a renewed sense of self-worth and optimism. He continued to receive support from Gateway through
